EXPLORE THE SEA AND COASTLINE
The sea is never far away; some say you can hear it no matter where you are on the island. Try kite surfing or diving and snorkelling around the reefs and then rest a bit on the white sandy beaches. Try out the snorkelling and diving in Anakao, on the Southern Reef coast and finish out the day with fresher than fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants.
EXPLORE THE ISLAND
On this island, where the roads make you wonder if they are, in fact, roads, getting to the inland attractions is part of the fun. Rent a 4x4 and test out your stunt driving skills, or hire a private plane to get to remote resorts to use as a base for your hiking and rock climbing. Trek through Manambolo Gorge, an incredible canyon framed by cliffs of red limestone, or shred the trails on the incredible mountain biking routes across the island.
Take a drive down the Allée des Baobabs at sunset, a brief but magical dirt road lined with 1,000-year-old trees, branches gnarled and silhouetted by the setting sun.
